As per wikipedia JetBlue is the 6th largest airline in the United States. Although a low cost carrier it has wider seat pitch and lot of free entertainment on-board which differentiates it from other big carriers. One more interesting aspect of JetBlue is the best fare guarantee which is different than the big U.S. carriers. While not as good as Alaska Airlines price guarantee it still provides some protection and benefits. So what exactly is JetBlue best fare guarantee? JetBlue like other airlines provides full refund if you cancel within 24 hours of purchase. But apart from that as per the Best fare guarantee description here JetBlue provides $100 in JetBlue credit to be used for next flight purchase and to be used within 1 year from the original ticket purchase date if you find lower fare any where else for the same ticket which was purchased on jetblue.com on the same day of purchase (read complete terms here). The caveat here is that you need to call in the customer support to exercise this guarantee which might be a bummer for some folks. The other less often talk about policy is the JetBlue "Honoring the lower fare policy". The wording of this policy says this is for "travel agents" which gives certain wiggle room for the JetBlue agents to not honor it for tickets booked by customers directly but otherwise it provides a 14 day guarantee. Ideally you could always claim to be a travel agent booking the ticket for yourself:-). As per the policy if Jetblue fare drops below the original purchase price within 14 days or less of original purchase date you would get the difference in fare as a JetBlue credit for future use. There is no fee assessed for honoring the lower fare within 14 days of purchase which other wise would cost you $75. Again you need to call JetBlue to exercise this guarantee but should be worth your time if there a savings to be had. So the next time you see the price drop for your JetBlue flight and it's been 14 days or less since you purchased your JetBlue itinerary do not forget to contact JetBlue and get your credit for future travel purchases on JetBlue. Most of the USA Carriers sells fare which are non-refundable. If you cancel your reservation within 24 hours of booking you can get full refund to your original payment method without any fees. There are however two carriers which are more flexible on change / refund policy and these are Southwest Airlines and Alaska Airlines. For Southwest if you cancel the flight up-to 10 minutes before departure you get the refund in the form of Southwest credit to be used by the same passenger within one year of the date of purchase of the ticket. For Alaska if you have booked the flight which is more than 60 days away from the flight date then you get the refund as a credit in your "My Wallet". The good part is this credit could be use for any passenger and it does not expire. So what happens if the price falls for the flight booked by on Alaska Airlines website and the flights are within 60 days of purchase date? The good news is that Alaska Airlines provides Price Guarantee where if the price of the flights falls it would either provide a refund or credit in My Wallet based on refundable or a non-refundable fare. Apart from Southwest Airlines generous change policy Alaska Airlines is the only one which does not charge any fees and provides the credit if the price of the flight booked by you falls below the original ticketed price. There are requirements such as you should not be changing the flight date, times, or cabin while using the price guarantee so as to say it has to be for the same flight you had originally booked. You can find the full terms here but more importantly the entire process can be done online and the credit gets deposited in My Wallet and expires in 1 year from the original date of reservation but you use it for any passengers. Also you can claim this credit for Virgin America flights booked on Alaska Airlines website . So the next time you see the fare of your booked flights with Alaska Airlines fall below your purchase price and if the reservation is within 60 days of travel, go ahead and claim the credit for future use here. CITY NATIONAL BANK (CNB) has a REWARDS PLUS PROGRAM which provides bonus points for online and in-store purchases. To see the details of the REWARDS PLUS program you need to login into their rewards website here. CNB rewards points can be redeemed at best value of 0.9 cents/points for merchant gift cards or at 1.14 cents/points for Flight redemption. While most of the offers are lukewarm there are few limited time offers which could be useful for bonus points earning. For e.g. take a peek at below merchants with limited time offers. As you can see there is Office Depot and Bloomingdales among the merchants. So with the above offer you can earn 3x points in total at Office Depot store. The bad news is that each of these offers has maximum earning limits. For e.g. the fine print for Office Depot offers requires a minimum purchase of $25 and has maximum bonus points earning capped at 1500 points whereas Bloomingdales offer requires minimum purchase of $50 and has similar maximum bonus points earning capped at 1500 points. Also I see an offer for CVS (in-store as well as online) where I can earn 10 points per $ for maximum spend of $30 which expires on 08/27/2017.
So if you hold this card for the obvious reasons of earning airline reimbursement credit you might want to check to see if you have similar offers and thus maximize earnings in categories or at merchants where other credit cards do not earn any bonus points. Alaska airlines gift certificates can only be redeemed at alaskair.com for flights operated by Alaska Airlines, Horizon Air, Penair between Anchorage and Dutch Harbor, and SkyWest Flight Series 3440-3499 as per the Gift certificate FAQ here. However Virgin America is now owned by Alaska Airlines and recently Alaska Airlines made a change to their website where you can use the Bank of America Alaska Credit Card companion certificate for redemption on flight tickets which includes Virgin America flights. With this change technically you should be able to redeem the Alaska Airlines gift certificate on Virgin America flights as well. Let's walk through a booking which includes Alaska Airlines and Virgin America flights as shown below Once you select the above flights and checkout you should see below two options on the payment page. You can use up to 4 Alaska Airlines gift certificate per reservation. Also the website does not allow you to redeem the gift certificates for Virgin America flights if you try to redeem them. The trick here is to add the gift certificate to your "My Wallet" which allows you to add unlimited number of gift certificates to your "My Wallet" and then redeem it from there. This way you can use more than 4 Alaska Airlines gift certificate. Also you can now redeem the wallet balance for both Alaska Airlines as well as Virgin America flights. Here is the link to My Wallet page. You can use the option to "Deposit a Gift Card or Certificate" to add the Gift certificate balance to your "My Wallet".
So hopefully the next time you are looking to use the Alaska Airlines gift certificate on Virgin America flights (Before the full integration happens) you will have a way to do it without any issues.
